Oxfam logoThank You from Oxfam New Zealand!

Did you know that your Body Spray purchase helped to tackle the root causes of poverty, help people access safe water and build a sustainable livelihood in Asia, the Pacific and Africa?

Each year Scents of Peace donates 10% of its annual sales to Oxfam New Zealand. We have long supported Oxfam's approach to sustainable solutions through its philosophy of “teach a man to fish” by providing resources to people to help themselves out of poverty.

Oxfam New Zealand also responds to emergencies and is currently working in Samoa to assist with the urgent needs of people affected by the tsunami disaster that occurred 30 September.

It always feels good to give to those that need it most and on their behalf, thank you for your contribution this year.

Generic cleaning productsAre Your Household Cleaners Safe?

Have you ever wondered if the cleaning supplies you are using contain toxic chemicals? Are they safe for you and your family? Many common household cleaning products (furniture polish, toilet/oven/drain cleaners, even some air fresheners) are considered hazardous waste potentially harmful to fish and wildlife, as well as humans.

A recent study by the Environmental Working Group tested cleaning supplies used at schools and found cleaners containing toxic chemicals linked to asthma, cancer and other health problems. (Read the full report here: http://www.ewg.org/schoolcleaningsupplies/overview).

Because nearly all essential oils are antiseptics and bactericides (which means they inhibit the growth of bacteria) they are superb natural cleaners that you can easily use around your home.

Cleaning with essential oils is simple. We've developed a natural disinfectant spray to use around the home to make sanitizing even easier. This spray contains thyme blended with lemon essential oils and can be sprayed on hard surfaces to kill bacteria and the spread of germs. Use this Natural Disinfectant Spray on hard surfaces such as the refrigerator door handle, bench tops, rubbish bins, etc. The Natural Disinfectant Spray is available at an introductory offer of only $7.50 for 100ml bottle while supplies last.

Take Time for Thyme

In celebration of the wild thyme that grows in Central Otago at this time each year, learn more about the history and essential oil of this fragrant herb in my article. It has more uses than just cooking!
